In a world where technology companies with millions of users increasingly fall into foreign hands and priorities can shift suddenly, there is a growing need for grip. Grip on data. On infrastructure. On ownership. Not out of fear of change, but because not every change works out well for you as the person ultimately responsible.
If you rely on external platforms or infrastructure, you automatically rely on their direction. Takeovers, legislative changes or a different legal system can suddenly determine where your data is, and who can access it. So local control is not a luxury, but a necessary buffer against the unexpected.
You remain responsible even as technology changes
Legislation such as the AVG makes your organization itself responsible for data location and access. You can't hide behind "our supplier takes care of that" if your communications infrastructure is out of your sight. Local control means: you know what is happening, where it is happening and under what jurisdiction it falls.
Geopolitical stability is not a certainty
What is neutral today may fall under sanctions tomorrow. A hosting partner may suddenly fall under foreign law, or be taken over by a party you'd rather not trust with your data. Local control means: you are prepared for such scenarios, or better yet, they hardly affect you. The question is not whether things go wrong, but when. Are you then dependent, or prepared?
This is what real control looks like
At FileCap, we have long believed in autonomy, legally and technically. We don't want dependencies that can surprise us or our customers. That is why we have built from day one with data sovereignty and independence as the starting point in our SaaS solution.
Concrete Measures:
- All messages and files are stored encrypted with keys that only you and your recipient possess. Not we, nor our hosting provider, can decrypt the stored data.
- Platform independence: Thanks to open standards and container technology, we can switch to a different platform or hosting location at lightning speed.
- Decentralized backups: every day we do offline backups at an independent third party. That means: full restore capability, independent of AWS or co-location.
Do you prefer complete physical control? Then we offer the FileCap appliance: an on-premises solution running in your own data center or co-location. With the same encryption and security as our SaaS variant, but completely under your control.
Technically feasible, strategically sensible
Although we now use Amazon Web Services, all our production environments run exclusively in European data centers (Frankfurt and Dublin). At the same time, we are actively investigating 100% EU-based cloud providers. As soon as we find a suitable party, we will move our entire workloads to a European company fully under EU jurisdiction.
Ready to shift gears, when you need it
Thanks to our combination of encryption, platform independence, open standards, distributed backups and on-premises deployment, we can switch platforms instantly when needed. You as CISO or IT manager thus have the assurance that your data always remains in safe, European hands regardless of geopolitical developments or external business decisions.
Confidence is good. Being prepared is better.
Takeovers, regulations or changes in direction can fundamentally change your infrastructure overnight. This is precisely when you want a partner who moves with you without making you dependent.
At FileCap, we don't think in excuses, we think in scenarios. Whether you work in healthcare, education, law or industry: you deserve a solution that works today and can still be justified tomorrow.
